Light Wallet Servers / Load Balancing Service

In IOTA, a Lightwallet is a wallet that connects remotely to a Server on which the IOTA IRI is running. As this is the easiest way to operate a wallet, the demand of working lightwallet servers is immense. Therefore IOTA Support along with long involved community members and Bitfinex created a server structure to address this need.

How does it work?

We have created a geo-balanced structure of lightwallet servers and load balancing servers (so called LBs) with two things in mind: security and reliabilty. This structure guarantees that you get connected to a working lightwallet server at any time, as you connect your wallet to one of the three LBs that then manage your requests with one of the available lightwallet servers. The dedicated servers are DDos protected, but we will not reveal further details on the architecture for security reasons.

It is of utmost importance that you read and understood the following points:

1. Your Sticky sessions: IP address is used to serve the wallet with the same server, whenever possible. This means, that you can log in/log out of the wallet and see the balance, history and adresses as usual. However, if your IP changes it is likely that the LB will direct you to a different server (in order to keep work balance between all servers). As it is the nature of the Tangle that any node sees it from a different perspective, your balance and history might not be displayed completely. In order to resolve this, go to the "Receive"-section of your wallet and generate addresses until everything gets displayed correctly.

2. Past snapshot actions: After a snapshot, the Database of every full node (and with that the database on every light wallet server) gets deleted. Therefore, your history and balance disappeared. You can get your balance back by simply going into the "Receive"-section of your wallet and generate addresses until you see your correct balance again (your wallet will re-generate every address that you used pre-snapshot again).

3. Past new release actions: After a new release it might be required by the foundation to delete the database of each full node. The same issue with the same solution as seen in point #2 will occur.

4. Status reports: Follow @IOTASupport on Twitter for status reports of the service.

Of course you can still connect to a lightwallet server manually, from the list below. These servers are not load balanced, so the potential for issues might be higher!
